How the Himalayas were formed

A poem

My kid asked me today how the Himalayas were formed.

Both of us were prepared.

“When two supersized continents fall in love,

they find ways to sleep in each others arms,

regardless of how dreadful and primitive an ocean stands in their path.

The storms and the waves will warn you:

true love hurts like true love should.

But what about the rushing into each others arms

that erases the longing of a million years,

And births an entire nation of dark enigmatic mountains?

What about that?

Your mom and I have a feeling

when geological forces tear big chunks of our hearts out,

the mountains will sing for us,

and only for us,

and frightening rivers will gush out of its peaks

to fill the deepest recesses of our hearts

with ceaseless joy.”
